In memoriam: Judy Wachs

Judy Wachs I occasionally glance at the obituaries in the Boston Globe (as one gets older which I still don't really admit this becomes a more frequent habit). This morning I was shocked to see the name of Judith Wachs.

I first met Judy in ~1973 when we were both members of The Quadrivium, an early music performing group. In 1978 she founded The Voice of the Turtle, a Sephardic music group of four talented musicians, all of whom had been members of The Quadrivium). They gave many local concerts as well as some internationally and made a bunch of CDs - all of which I have.

This group under Judy's leadership revived and extended a little known musical tradition. Sound clips of a few pieces are available on the web site.

My sympathies to her family and to her many friends. This is a big loss.

From the Song of Solomon:
The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.

This is terribly sad. I've been to several VotT concerts, and always enjoyed her musicianship.
