Harbinger of Winter....

Today when rsc got the mail from downstairs he said: "you can tell when winter is here" and I knew exactly what he meant.

The first seed catalog had arrived!

This was from Pinetree Garden Seeds, a nice place in Maine with a plain catalog not printed on glossy paper to overemphasize the attractiveness of the plants and with low prices. We always get some stuff from them.

We did notice that it said that Garlic Chives don't spread as much as regular chives. Where have they been? It said they have nice white flowers - and they do - but that is one of the causes of garlic chives everywhere. The only thing they can't beat is the mint.

I adore these catalogues.

I wonder if the garlic chives, which, after all, most of us can see over, would vanquish our grass? Without snow and rareley frosted, we get grass that reaches chest height if unchecked.

Although they do have a lot more color pictures than they used to.
